Fukushima,Japan:Tsunami Warning After Large magnitude 6.8 Quake Hits Off Coast 12,July 2014


A large, 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck hundreds of kilometers off the coast of Japan’s Fukushima Prefecture on Saturday morning, according to preliminary reports.
Japan’s quake-monitoring agency said the quake hit a few minutes ago.
The USGS said via its website that the quake hit 94 miles from Namie and Iwaki, 103 miles from Kitaibaraki, and 106 from Takahagi. The quake was also positioned about 185 miles from Tokyo.
The agency said the earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.8 on the Richter scale.
It had a depth of 6.2 miles.
A tsunami  advisory will be issued for the quake, said Japan’s meteorological agency. A 1-meter wave is expected in Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima coasts, said the Kyodo news agency.
The wave will come at around 4:50 a.m. local time.
